Leading Off: Hoping answers from Sabres sound different

Just how gullible are we? That question needs to be asked before Thursday’s 10 a.m. press conference with Lindy Ruff, Darcy Regier and Larry Quinn.
Less than a year ago, Regier said the Sabres would be “less competitive,” then added that “the sky’s not falling.”
One out of two ain’t bad.
A year after the Briere/Drury debacle, not a day passes without the duo being mentioned in media circles, and when the playoffs opened last night, those two were still playing while the Sabres had already hauled their stuff out of HSBC Arena.
In that July 2 press conference, Regier added, “we’ll find a way to get better.”
Today, when he again faces the media with Quinn at his side, he’ll face some of the same questions: Who will be the team’s leader in the future? How will Buffalo fill the void at center? What’s the franchise long-term plan?
If the duo’s answers sound anything like last year’s we need to ask ourselves again — just how gullible are we?
