Kelley: Bernier “next to useless”

The trip to Toronto last night was an easy one, and it included a surprisingly good showing for Steve Bernier, who’s done little since his debut. I listened to Jim Kelley on The Fan 590 for much of the ride, wondering two things along the Queen E:

• Where did all those condos come from?
• What’s with the bubble on BMO Field, where Toronto FC plays its home games?

I’m easily distracted.

Anyway, I read Kelley’s latest column this morning and funny enough, he mentions Steve Bernier’s hibernation, something I mentioned in my column today.
Kelley called Bernier “next to useless,” and said the deal for Brian Campbell was the league’s best at the deadline.
All that said, Bernier did play his best game since deadline day against the Leafs. He needs to do it more often for this deal to work out for Buffalo. As Kelley mentioned, the first-rounder Buffalo also got might be the 30th pick overall.

  1. How come no one has made the Bernier/Steve Heinze comparison? Trade deadline superstar to dud in a flash …. Also, I hope those Toronto scalpers do NFL games too, I’m going to need some Bills tickets in a few years….

  2. My comment is awaiting “moderation.” Screw that. I don’t want to do this anymore….

  3. Who wants to play Niagara Falls trivia?

  4. Way to take a flying leap into 2003, Tim!
